the gigs i go to: things to know
if you are here, you may have seen me on social media going to a bunch of live music gigs around eora (sydney).
I made this page to share some realities about my gig habits and to let anyone seeing me go to gigs on social media not feel bad about not being able to go to as many gigs as me.
- I got into going to more and more gigs as a way to get over my social anxiety. It acted as exposure therapy and I am very grateful I got to get better in social setting whilst also being able to grow my like in live music.
- I spend my own money on gigs. Some of it is impulse and there are times when I know I should probably not go to X tos save $ but I still do because of fomo (I'm getting better at it, though).
- I try to go to as many local gigs as I can to try and take videos and share it with people around me. My hope being that I can help bands get a tiny bit more traction via outreach. It feels good to be a part of something.
- I am aware that this is not something everyone can do. I am certain as my life circumstances change that I will also have to cut down. However, I feel like live music has given so much to me I feel compelled to share as much as I can to others.
- I feel like music is such an important part of my life in how I process emotion and life events. And as a result, I often use gigs as an aid towards that.
- Finding community via live music has been really wonderful. I have met some wonderful people along the way and I definitely feel more connected as a result.
- With the free time I spend on live music, I have not watched a tv show in quite some time and focus on just watching films at the cinema instead. Basically, there are sacrifices in other experiences I make to be out so much.
- I gave up drinking to save money and use it towards gigs. I still try to support venues by buying non-alc drinks!
- To support bands I love, I try to buy merch whenever I can. This means my entire wardrobe bad fashion sense is mostly band tshirts 😅.
