darsh's life

intersecting with a shooting star

I was walking home from the gym today, at around 9pm. The air is cool and still and the sky is clear. As I walk down my street, I decide to look up at the night sky. I see a shooting star fly by. Ending its journey by grazing our atmosphere. I can't help but think about how small I am - me, a conscious being, moving my neck up and crossing paths with a celestial object drawn to the Earth from the vastness and emptiness of space.

Are we the only ones in the universe who can observe this and then reflect on it afterwards? Or is there someone else in the cosmos, who is also turning their neck (or neck equivalent), walking (hovering for all we know), finishing some activity (do they even have a sense of time passing like we do?), and feeling (or does it mean something else to them?) small like I am at this very moment.
