hike to crosslands reserve + wildlife
Today, I decided to go to a long-ish day hike. I set out to do something nearby that I could start and finish early. I decided to go to Berowra Waters and hike from there to the Crosslands Reserve! It was a 13km track, with plenty of cover, water, and elevation (400-500m!). I'd highly recommend this track if you want to get your heart pumping, be closer to nature, and take in some great views.

Naa Badu Lookout

Lovely Grass

Great North Walk
I'd love to complete the full walk one day (Syd to Newcastle)

Wildlife
Rufious Fantail
All the stage presence of a Willie Wagtail but with added colours!
Caterpillar
Cute little caterpillar making its way
Variegated Fairy Wren
Both male and females foraging!
White Cheeked Honeyeater
Can be distinguished from a New Holland honeyeater by the lack of white pupils (and different call)
Lyrebird and Juvenile(?)
Not sure if this is a juvenile or a pair. Spotted the adult digging through a crevice and then come out to explore a new spot. I was treated to a few calls too.
Lace Monitor!
Seemed relatively young due to size. I was at a good distance and this was taken with telephoto zoom. I love its expression!

Tips
- Wear good hiking shoes as there is a lot of rocky terrain. I used trail shows and my ankles are already complaining.
- Hiking poles would be good here for balance as there are a lot of slopes and uphill traversals.
- There are picnic tables at Crosslands Reserve if you want to have a short lunch there!
- The later half from Berowra - Crosslands was more rich in fauna vs. the first half (probably due to it being so close to humans).
