darsh's life

hello, moon

I went out to my local park earlier today. The sun is getting stronger and I am being hurled closer to spring. I have already noticed the Earth around me changing. Most notably the golden wattles, the longing Currawong calls, more Silvereyes, and Jacaranda trees are almost deep green with leaves again.

I sat down near a fig tree. The ground was just dry enough. I waited for the sunset and the moonrise. My eyes are heavy and puffy from sleeping poorly the night before. I am on my fourth instant coffee for the day. I had it way too late. I have not been able to focus today at all. And yet I have been gifted the beauty of reading some words that still make me feel deeply with the book I am reading. I am grateful for that, even though I can't really follow the narrative sometimes.

I get a call from Mum. The moon rises in a few minutes or maybe it already has. But I talk about my life and hers. And we plan out what we are doing tomorrow on Saturday when we meet at a family gathering. It's a nice undulating conversation. I tell her to look at the moon as I catch my eye as it rises. It appears just a bit above the horizon. She goes outside and exclaims at how pretty and red it is. I concur. We hang up the phone shortly after some silence as we both take this full moon in.

She is as mesmerising as ever. And this is probably the deepest I have ever looked into her. It's funny how perspectives of even the most celestial and cosmic of objects, an object so unfathomably far away, can still be changed in our minds because of a singular person touching a life. Ah, the human condition. We are so small yet can change the biggest things. And loss and grief is the long division remainder we must pay.

I capture her periodically. I am taken aback at how fast the moon moves through the sky when tracking it through a viewfinder. If I stayed here long enough she too would leave. I wonder if this is how life may fleet away too if we're not careful.

Here, watch your own life fleet with this sequence I made of her with her fullest face this month.
