camping memories
a collection of camping memories made with friends in the form of crappy, unstructured poetry and prose.
apr 2025, crowdy gap (Birpai country)
slowing right down
starting with a flat tyre on my way to pick up a friend
already behind schedule; i left packing to the last moment as usual the sweet, sweet feeling of cortisol and adrenaline coursing through my veins
nrma to the rescue!
but the resulting presence of mind was very welcome
as we figured out a way
to get to camp before the night endedand yet, all that stress seemed to disappear
as soon as
the tent, the mat, the sleeping bag, and the lamp were in place
and my chair was around the campfire and my friends
with nothing but us, the stars, the cold night air, and conversations
with no obligations, no rush
everything slowing right down
the camp beach
a night trip to the camp beach from our fireplace
the full moon shining over our hopeful, adventurous, carefree faces full of conversations it reminds me of a time when all that mattered
was the moment that was in front of usi am overcome with the beauty of seeing the ocean against the night light
shimmering with subdued, sparkling moonlight
the image of the waves drawn by the sound of them
crashing
the moment is soft, magical, and mystical in quality
as we get our feet wet and get antiquated to the dark we see our friend
running
naked
into the ocean
his smile visible
no amount of darkness could have dimmed that smilewe all know what this means
we all look around
and one by one, we undress and jump naked into the ocean
behind our free-spirited friend
the weight of being all but gone
and the moment in front of us
there for the taking
the elements
the pitter patter of of the rain above my tent
ocean waves in the background, crashing
like a lullaby to my soul
reminding me once again
that the simple things close to the elements
are all that is true and real for the soul
