99% of us will be forgotten within 2 generations
How does this statement make you feel? I heard this on the radio recently as I was carrying on my weekend chores and it made me stop in my thoughts. Was I happy with what I was doing? For the 1 or 2 generations where someone remembers me, what do I want to be remembered for? How does this make me feel?
Initially, I felt sad and felt quite hopeless. I felt like I was letting the future down by not doing something substantial with my time here.
But I think I appreciate the statement a lot more now. It reminds me that life is quite an accident and what I do doesn't necessarily have to carry over into the future. All I can do is the best version of me and make a difference in people's lives for the better whenever I can. Not everything needs to be recorded in long term history for it to be pure and good.
